Andrea Rangel
My name is Andrea Carolina Rangel Guevara. I am sixteen years old and I am from Colombia. I was born in Bogota, which is the capital of Colombia, and I lived there until I was 10 years old. Then I moved to Santa Marta, which for me is the best place in the world because it is peaceful and I have a lot of good memories about it, like the first day that I played golf. For me there is nothing more important than golf. I was class president this year and I like to help others. I am good at mathematics, physics and chemistry and I love reading.
I want to become a professional and play with the best people in the LPGA. That is the reason why I am here; I want to improve my English, to speak faster and to understand faster. I am here to take the SAT and TOEFL and to try to get a scholarship. Furthermore, I want to improve my fitness, and I know that with practice and effort I am going to reach all my goals.
Experience in California
By Petra Heidl
In 1988 I decided to visit the United States as an au-pair. Until that date I visited a language school to be a foreign language secretary. I learned a lot about writing a business letter in English, Spanish and French, but not to speak so well. I heard of a friend who lived with a family in England to learn and study the language. She explained it took her about two to three months to speak English fluently. I thought about doing the same and working in a family as an au-pair and learning English during that time. The weather in the United Kingdom isn’t the best, even worse than in Germany, so I decided to travel to California.
I found a family in Santa Barbara, one of the nicest places in California. I had stayed there for one year and learned to speak English without thinking too much of a word in English. I learned to talk fluently.
My next intention was to be a flight attendant with Lufthansa German Airlines and I got the job right away. In my opinion, it is very helpful to stay abroad for a longer time. One can learn the language better than in the home country and also learn to be very self-sufficient. It is very interesting to learn how family life is in another country. You can find a lot of friends all over the world. The family I stayed with lives now in South Africa and the boy and girl I took care of while I was an au-pair are now 22 and 20 years old. We still keep in touch and we will see each other here in Florida in January next year. A stay in another country is always a very good experience for life and education.

Enthusiam. Determination. Purpose. I describe Richard Jouven like this. He is 18 years old and was born in Marseille, a sunny land of good restaurants, famous for its olive oil and herbs. He is staying in Bradenton to play golf, upgrade his English and in the future attend a university. But what he really wants is to become professional in golf. He has played golf since he was four years old. He loves this sport because through it people can know many beautiful places in the word and he can improve his fitness. Golf is also an individual sport, and this pleases him. Richard is happy at IMG and expects to sink many balls.
A Conscientious Physician
By Richard Jouven
Well today I am going to introduce my classmate. Her name is Maria Elisa and she lives in Florianopolis, in the south of Brazil, which is a wonderful country. She speaks Portuguese and she will spend one year at IMG Academies in Florida to improve her English. In Brazil she works at four different places, in three hospitals and one private clinic.
The weather in Brazil is always sunny in summer and in the winter it’s a little bit cold. For example, sometimes it snows nearby. She loves also romantic music and comedy films. She can’t do any sport because she works on Saturdays and Sundays, so it’s difficult to have time to visit somewhere or to play golf or tennis.
Ivete: The Brazilian Super Woman!
By Drayenko Marin
Today I’d like to talk about my friend and classmate Ivete Dos Santos. She is from Sao Paulo, Brazil. She is married and has two children, a boy who is 15 years old and is in junior high right now, and a girl who is 12 and studies in 8th grade. She and her family decided to come to the U.S for a year, because they wanted to interact with new cultures and have new experiences. Her favorite kind of music is classical music. Her hobbies are reading, traveling and watching movies! She also likes volleyball. She has a poodle called Nina. Her favorite color is dark blue, and she said she loved Japanese and Arabic food! Her favorite place in the world is her beach house, because she says it’s her paradise. And when I asked her what she wanted to do in the future, she told me that she wanted to open a business to help people, which I think is amazing!
New Classmate
By Ahmad Alnadi
I would like to introduce one of my new classmates. First, his name is Drayenko. Second, he is from Venezuela. Also, he is not sure if he is going to study at a college here or not. He has been here in the USA for two weeks. Next, his favorite kind of music is rock; also he plays drums. He’s got some nice instruments too. He doesn’t have family here, but his parents are with him for three weeks. Finally, his favorite sport is soccer and he is playing it here at IMG Academies. I wish for him the best as a new friend.
On my first day back to English class, I interviewed one of my classmates. Ahmad Alnadi is a very young man from Jordan. He has two brothers and one sister, but only he lives in the United States.
Ahmad came here this year to get into a college. He is studying English in this school to take the Toefl Exam, the first step to reach his business course. He is missing his family, because he has a tight-knit relationship with them; however, Ahmad knows that he needs to sacrifice himself for the sake of his goals. According to him, as soon as he finishes his college, he will return to his country. He likes the USA and, to him, the most important value in this country is freedom.
Welcome to the USA and to our class, Ahmad! I hope we can learn with each other and exchange experiences from our countries.
